About our rescue & sanctuary

Our Mission

To rescue adoptable dogs from euthanasia and provide them with quality care in a unique, homelike setting as we work to match them with forever families.

To provide the local community with employment, volunteer and recreational opportunities including an on-campus ice cream shop and mini golf course whose proceeds support the rescue’s operations, and to partner with service organizations to create mutually beneficial dog care experiences.

Our Unique Campus

Constructed over 18 months in 2021-2022, our six-acre campus features six residential-style dog cabins inspired by local architecture, a welcome center with offices, a conference center, and a small retail gift shop, acres of wooded hiking trails, and a seasonal ice cream shop and 18-hole dog themed mini-golf course whose operations support the rescue’s daily operations.

Residential Canine Cabins

Our six dog cabins were designed to help rescued dogs relax, decompress and then acclimate to living with their future adoption families. In the dormitory portion of each cabin, dogs have their own comfortable, private and climate-controlled bedrooms. The front half of each cabin features a furnished living room area, laundry room, bathroom and kitchen. The living space is intended to provide a comfortable spot for staff and volunteers to interact and spend time with the dogs. Each cabin also has a private, fenced in play area.

Wicky Ralph’s Ice Cream & Mini-Golf

Open seasonally, the whimsical ice cream shop features hand-dipped and soft serve ice cream cones and cups, sundaes, shakes, malts, floats and cold beverages. The unique dog themed 18-hole mini-golf course features a ton of family fun that includes water features, animated characters, and surprises around every corner. Proceeds from the ice cream shop and mini-golf sales directly support the daily operations of the rescue.

Play Areas & Hiking Trails

In addition to the fenced in play areas behind each cabin, a larger fenced hilltop play area overlooks the campus where dogs can interact, run and play with staff and volunteers. The hilltop play fence extends into the woods so that dogs can root around in the woods and chase a few squirrels. Just beyond the hilltop play area is the entrance to our wooded hiking trails. Our amazing local volunteers helped us carve out several marked trails where staff and volunteers can take long walks with dogs.

How We Acquire Our Adoptable Dogs

In line with our mission, we source adoptable dogs of all sizes and breeds from kill shelters around the country by partnering with like-minded rescue operations and shelters. Once dogs have been identified for Grammy Rose, they receive any required shots and are transported to Maine. Sometimes the transport comes straight to the rescue to hand off its precious cargo, and at other times we meet transports around New England with our customized transport van and handle the “last mile” transport directly to Grammy Rose. Dogs coming from out of state go through a 5-day quarantine period and are then posted on our website and Facebook page for adoption.
