OUR MISSION AT
Grammy Rose Dog
Rescue & Sanctuary
A HISTORY OF
Grammy Rose
Dog Rescue & Sanctuary
Located in Acton Maine, our rescue was inspired by the lives of Rose Kessler Wentworth (“Grammy Rose”) and her husband Ralph Edward Wentworth (“Wicky Ralph”). The rescue is a living tribute to their legacy and was built on land that has been stewarded by the Wentworths and their antecedents dating back to the American revolution. Visiting Our Welcome Center & Gift Shop
Welcome Center Hours
Our campus Welcome Center, the large building to the left as you drive onto our campus, is open 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year round. When you visit, you’ll be greeted with an informative display that showcases the history of our rescue and highlights the inspiring individuals who helped shape our unique campus. You’ll learn about our mission statement and meet some of the dedicated people who care for the dogs in residence.
Visit the Gift Shop
Be sure to spend time in Rose’s Corner, our gift shop named for Grammy Rose herself, where you can take a piece of the rescue home with you. The shop’s items change seasonally, but always feature a variety of Grammy Rose apparel, dog supplies, heartfelt rescue souvenirs, and locally-made craft items. Proceeds from every purchase from the gift shop go directly to support the rescue’s mission, and we love seeing folks sporting Grammy Rose t-shirts, hats, and hoodies out and about in the community. We truly appreciate the support!
Adoptable Dogs in Need in Maine
Spotlight on Ollie!
We had a photographer on site recently and HAD to introduce her to Ollie, our resident “tripod”. (See what we did there?) Ollie came to us in January. He’s originally from Louisiana, and had his front right leg amputated for medical reasons before he took his freedom ride to us. Honestly, you’d never know he was missing a leg – Ollie is a happy, goofy free-spirited and animated pup. He’s super smart, friendly to people and other dogs, and loves to run and play. He’s a little over a year old, weighs about 35 pounds, is neutered, house trained and deals well with a crate. He’s been on multiple car-ride adventures in recent weeks and has really enjoyed getting out into nature and meeting other people and other dogs.
Why has Ollie been with us so long, you ask? We believe the right match is the best match, and dogs we save from unfortunate situations adjust to our sanctuary’s daily routines differently and in their own time. When Ollie first arrived, he had some treat/food guarding behaviors that were a little challenging, but in working with our professional dog trainer, he’s really come around. We believe that Ollie will be happiest if he is adopted by a family without small kids, and by folks who can provide a dog brother or sister that he gets along with – he seems to really thrive with several of our dogs on campus. He’s a good boy who deserves the best life possible.
